Here is the story of the last couple of days.
Friday night at 10.46pm Bec started to get some contractions that were about 20 mins apart. Becs water broke at 12.41am on July 1. I know what you are all thinking. She waited for the new financial year to start her journey into the world. well if she did she is one smart cookie and will surely be great manager material in the future. The amazing thing about Becs water breaking was the classic catch bec did of the towel and water as she ran to the toilet. not one drop spilt. very impressive. If Bec might say so herself.
Contractions continued to happen and they started to become a little more regular and the midwife at Calvary hospital told us to come into the hospital. we arrived there at 2.05am on July 1. The contractions continued to increase in intensity and at 5.30 - 6.20am Bec had a hot shower to try and ease the pain.
At 7am there was no baby but a change of midwives occured. Pauline was replaced by Peta.
at 7.45am Mike made the ultimate sacrifice and cancelled his round of golf. Lily had better remeber that in the future.
By 9.03am Bec was starting to get sick of the pain and starting sucking on the gas to aid her through the contractions. The contractions started to get more and more intense as the day went on. Mike helped by supporting her weight during the contractions and acting as a squeezing ball as well.
Becs mum Lynn came and got queasy several times and was given plenty of jobs to do by the mid wife to get her out of the room and into fresh air. Paul, Sue, Geoff and Viv Davis arrived at around 6pm and were great support. The Davii and Lynn waited just outside the labour ward for up to 2 hours waiting for a baby to emerge.
At 7pm Bec was fully dilated and was ready to begin pushing. (dont tell Dr Angus but Bec confessed to pushing before she was fully dilated) Bec was pushing during her contractions for a full 1 hour and then Dr Angus arrived, assessed the situation and decided that Bec was going to need a spinal injection to allow him to aid the birth with forceps. The anethetist arrived at 8.30pm and was dressed up to the nines explained to us that she just left a romantic dinner and got prepared to do her stuff.
Bec was given the spinal injuection( apparently the spinal injection isnt as severe as an epidural and not as risky either, anyway it did the job) to numb the pain from T12 down.
It was now time for Bec and Dr Angus to work together by pushing(Bec) and pulling with forceps(Dr Angus) during each contraction. Within 5 minutes a beautiful little baby girl was born, after she had a good loud cry and Mike cut the cord before she was placed on her mums chest and fussed over by all in the birthing suite.
Mike went out all emotional and exhausted from no sleep for 38 hours and aiding the 22 hours of contractions and labour and told those waiting the great news. After Lily copped a bath, weighing/measuring and her first suck of the breast she was then fussed over by Granny Taylor, Granny and Grandpa Davis and Uncle Geoff and Aunty Viv.
Bec was stuck on the bed having to wait for the effects of the spinal injection to wear off. By 5am she was right to get off the bed and have a shower and get moved to her room.
Oh what a long time for her labour but it was certainly worth it.
